Getting the look for less in your home

Upcycling furniture can be a fun, inexpensive and relatively quick way to completely transform or re-style a room.

We’ve shared a few tips, tricks and go-to places for upcycling inspiration which can easily be put into practice, and don’t require being an Interior Designer…

Best finds…

Second hand furniture shops can be a great place to find unique and reasonably priced pieces of furniture that you won’t see in everyone’s homes or on your Instagram feed! It’s always worth revisiting if you don’t find something the first time, as stock is regularly turned round and the best bits get snapped up quickly.

Then there’s Facebook Marketplace, Gumtree, Shpock and good old eBay too, keep an eye out for older 60’s and 70’s designs that can be sanded, painted and looking super on-trend within a few hours and for just a few pounds.

If you’ve found a new upcycling project to work on but are unsure what direction to go in style-wise, head over to Pinterest for some ideas and inspo.

Budget-friendly…

Upcycling doesn’t have to be expensive, there are countless articles and videos online that share tips and tricks that you can fit to a tighter budget! We’ve recently started following @maisieviolet_rees who shares budget-friendly design hacks and tutorials that help to create an interior that reflects your personality.

New lease of life…

If you’re decorating and want to change the overall style of a room, it doesn’t mean you have to completely replace every piece of furniture. There are plenty of ways to give a different feel to the room - with a lick of paint, vinyl, decoupage, wallpaper, stencils or spray paint. Focusing on the smaller details can also have a big impact, such as changing over handles or doorknobs on a tired looking chest of drawers!

Vinyl can be a simple way to give your plain coffee or kitchen cupboards a brand new lease of life, especially if you regularly like to switch your interior up, or are renting and limited by what you can change. We’ve been following @jesrosevinyl on Instagram for a while now who started her “boing to beautiful” vinyl company and we still can’t believe the room transformations!
